Call for Undergraduate Student Representatives to serve on Senate

The Carleton University Senate is seeking nominations from undergraduate students to fill 10 upcoming vacancies. Have your say in the academic governance and future of Carleton University by running for Senate.

Nominations are being accepted for undergraduate students to serve on Senate for a one-year term, beginning July 1, 2026, and ending June 30, 2027.

Vacancies are outlined below:

Sprott School of Business – 1 vacancy
Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences – 3 vacancies
Faculty of Public and Global Affairs – 3 vacancies
Faculty of Engineering and Design – 2 vacancies
Faculty of Science – 1 vacancy

The nomination deadline is March 2, 2026, at 4 p.m.

February 2, 2026	Call for Expressions of Interest begins
March 2, 2026	Deadline for Student expressions of Interest (4 p.m.)
March 10-11, 2026	Student Election period
March 12, 2026	Notification of election outcomes to candidates and community
March 27, 2026	Senate Meeting – member ratifications
March 30, 2026	Announcement in Inside Senate

Eligibility Requirements

Students elected to Senate must meet the following requirements:

Previous academic governance experience at the faculty or department level at Carleton University
Be registered at the university in an undergraduate program
Be registered in at least one course in each of the Fall and Winter terms in the academic year when they were elected and during their period of service
Have completed successfully at least 4.0 credits prior to service
Maintain the academic status of Eligible to Continue throughout their period of service
If any of these requirements are not satisfied during the term of service, the student must resign from this position.

Interested candidates are encouraged to complete the online application and submit a statement of candidacy to be used in the event of an election.

Elections

Online elections will be held mid-March for any contested positions. If a position is not contested, the nominated candidate will be acclaimed and no election will be required.
