Gail Cook-Bennett

Gail Cook-Bennett, Chair, Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, was awarded the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, at the 12:30 p.m. ceremony on Saturday, June 12, “in recognition of an outstanding contribution to Canadian business through effective leadership, and service to the community.”

Dr. Gail Cook-Bennett has served as Director on a long list of some of the top private and public sector boards in Canada, including Manulife Financial, Petro Canada, the Toronto-Dominion Bank, and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council.

As a member of the Board of the Bank of Canada, she chaired the Special Committee of the Board charged with appointing, with the approval of the Governor in Council, the Governor and Senior Deputy Governor of the Bank of Canada. Her achievements have earned her the honour of Fellow by the Institute of Corporate Directors, and a Montreal YWCA Honour for Contribution to Working Women.
