Grounding Techniques to get through the Winter!

January 30, 2023 at 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM

Location:3101 Canal Building
Cost:Free
Audience:Carleton Community, Current Students

What are Grounding Techniques?

Grounding techniques work by “grounding” you in the present moment and pulling you away from intrusive thoughts or feelings. This refers not only to having your “feet on the ground” but also your “mind on the ground.” When you turn your attention away from thoughts, memories, or worries, you can refocus on the present moment (Fisher, 1999).

During this event, students will learn techniques that they can apply to everyday life, including some deep breathing exercises and techniques to help with anxiety and stress.

Exercises offered may include:
– Deep breathing
– Techniques to help students remain in the present moment
– Written reflection
