Each year the Japan Foundation, under the auspices of the Japanese Embassy, sponsors a Canada-wide speech competition for students studying Japanese at Canadian institutions and the 2011 provincial round of competition just wrapped up in Ottawa with Carleton students placing highly in all three categories: 1st in the Advanced category and 2nd in both Intermediate and Beginner.  A wonderful achievement.

However, the nerves and excitement are not over yet for competitors and their instructors.  With regional competition behind them, winning students now go on to compete in nationals March 31 in Vancouver.
