SLaLS contract instructor Dr. Tracy Hodgson-Drysdale recently presented at the 1st International Online Systemic Functional Linguistics Interest Group (SFLIG) Conference with colleagues Dr. Maria Estela Brisk (Boston College) and Elizabeth MacDonald (Boston Public Schools). Their talk was titled “Teaching writing informed by Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL): Bringing professional development up to scale through online courses”. It focused on how online pedagogy combined with SFL provided new approaches to culturally and linguistically relevant professional development for elementary and middle school teachers. The presentation was based on a chapter that will appear in the edited volume Culturally Responsive Teaching and Learning Online through Theory, with Design, and by Practice in 2022. It also led to an invitation to present virtually at the Institute of English Studies, Pedagogical University in Poland in January.
