Congratulations to instructors Soyoung Kang and Seunghee Chung, who will be offering a mini-course on Korean popular music (K-Pop) and the Korean alphabet for the Mini-Courses Program (MCP) offered at Carleton University in Spring 2024.

The Mini-Courses Program (MCP) invites students from Grades 8 to 11 in Eastern Ontario and Secondary II to V in Western Quebec to explore a field of study in a university setting.

Kang and Chung, who both teach Korean language courses with the School of Linguistics and Language Studies, submitted a proposal for the 2024 MCP for their course “K-Pop ABCs: Learn to Read and Write the Korean Alphabet in 5 Days!” With over 100 submissions to the 2024 MCP, we are delighted to share that their course has been chosen to run in 2024.

In Kang and Chung’s mini-course, students will be introduced to the Korean alphabet, Hangul, and will learn to read and write Korean text. They will also have the opportunity to visit the Korean Cultural Centre in Ottawa, where they can don Korean traditional dress (hanbok), try Korean snacks, and sing K-pop with karaoke.
