In Japan, autumn is celebrated as a time rich in cultural activities, highlighted by Cultural Day, during which many universities host cultural festivals for visitors. On November 1st, we hosted our own version of the cultural festival titled “Ink and Paper: Exploring Japanese Traditions.”

During the event, participants explored traditional arts such as calligraphy, origami, and haiku poetry readings. At the calligraphy table, students had the opportunity to grind charcoal ink and use it to write words of their choice with a brush. Colourful origami works were created at the origami table, showcasing participants’ creativity. Participants also submitted beautiful haiku poems, written in both Japanese and English.  Additionally, 12 illustrations were submitted to the illustration contest.  Entries were displayed during the event and attendees voted for their favourite.
