Graduate students in the School of Linguistics and Language Studies (SLaLS) are invited to join a new writing and support group.

This group provides an opportunity for SLaLS graduate students to meet once a month to discuss their current research, challenges, and progress. Whether you prefer to meet in person or online, our flexible meeting options ensure everyone can join. We aim to have informal, friendly, regular monthly meetings. This is your space to share, collaborate, and enhance your research journey within a community that understands your unique academic needs.

What do we do?

  • Mock presentation: Prepare for doctoral projects (DP1, DP2, DP3), conference presentations, or your final defence. Participate in our mock presentations to hone your presentation skills and receive constructive feedback from your peers. After each presentation, we rotate the question round to help presenters anticipate questions and refine their responses.
  • Research discussions: Discuss your current research status, publication, upcoming conferences, and course insights. This is a perfect opportunity to get feedback, advice, and a fresh perspective on your work.

Why join the group?

  • Enhance understanding: The more you talk about your research, the better you understand what you already know and can therefore identify areas that need clarity.
  • Learn from peers: Every member’s journey offers unique insights and learning opportunities. By sharing our experiences, we all grow stronger together.
  • Build confidence: Regular discussions and presentations will build confidence, preparing you for academic and professional success.

We believe that by supporting each other, we can all achieve more. Whether you’re just starting your research or preparing for your final steps, the SLaLS Writing and Support Group is here to help you succeed.
