  • Writing and Visualising Medical Physics
    (Sara Doody, MA Student)

In this presentation of an in progress study, I examine the role of genre assemblages (Spinuzzi, 2010) in knowledge construction and community practices in the discipline of Medical Physics. Of particular interest is the multimodal nature of the genres produced and used by medical physicists and how these genres serve to further the goals of the Medical Physics community. Guided by Charmaz’s (2006) constructivist grounded theory, both expert and novice medical physicists’ wri.ng and perceptions of writing will be examined. This presentation will specifically focus on the writing and practices of an experienced medical physicist.

  • Considering First Steps Toward a Unified Canadian Sign Language Teachers’ Association
    (Nina Doré, PhD Student )

There has been an upswing in American Sign Language (ASL) enrolments in post‐secondary institutions, but the lack of a unified body to both support ASL teachers and evaluate programs raises concerns about the future of ASL in Canada. The proposed study seeks to elicit the needs of current Canadian teachers in order to inform future directions of a potential teachers’ association.
