Jim Davies
Professor Jim Davies has taught in the Institute of Cognitive Science at Carleton University since 2006 and during that time, he has added a few teaching awards to his name. In 2012, he won an Excellence in Teaching with Technology Award, in 2015, he was awarded the Provost’s Fellowship in Teaching Award for sustained excellence in teaching, and most recently, he won the 2020 Excellence in Blended and Online Learning award.
Jim uses over 25 years of his own formal education to inspire his teaching method of not wasting student work. Whether published online for other scholars’ reference, or used to help future students in the course, everything students do in Jim’s class has a meaningful and practical use.
As the Director of the Science of Imagination Laboratory, Jim also works with students to discover how the mind creates the images we imagine. His work has shown how people use visual thinking to solve problems, and how they visualize imagined situations and worlds.
