Public Computers

eKiosks

In addition to the PC labs, there are also a number of eKiosks machines on campus for student use. These are computers mainly intended to be used to check e-mail and browse the Internet. There is a twenty-minute time limit when using these computers, after which you will automatically be logged off.

Laptop Loaner Program

We also offer 30 laptops for you to borrow and use anywhere in the library.  Current Carleton University students, staff, and faculty in good standing may register for the laptop loan program at the ITS Service Desk, located on the 4th floor of the library.

Printing

Pay Printing is available at most public student labs and in other public areas around campus.  For specific instructions on how to print in the labs and at other pay printers on Campus, please see the CUontheGO webpage.

CUNET printing refers to the printing service for staff and faculty from their computers on the CUNET network. For help connecting to a network computer in your department, visit our Online Help Centre.

Site-Licensed Software

ITS has made special purchase arrangements for Windows, Macintosh, Unix or Linux software packages. Some software is site-licensed for unlimited use campus-wide. Other software has been made available through educational discounts for volume purchase. Some licenses may restrict the number of copies, the type of use, duration of licence, or the location of machines on which the software may be used.

Student and Faculty software is also available at educational pricing through the Campus Bookstore.  Please visit the bookstore in the University Centre for more information.

Residence PC Protection

Proper protection against computer viruses is required so that you have an operational network to support your academic studies.

ITS will be increasing its monitoring of the residence network to help keep your network clean. Monitoring will detect future infections of computers connected to ResNet and will isolate these computers from the network until they can be disinfected and properly protected.

Acquisition of Computers

Hardware services can assist with the purchasing of computers.

Once purchased, computers can be configured for office or home use.  Carleton’s standard desktop image may be installed on computers purchased with university funds. A standard Carleton image cannot be used for computers purchased for home use, whether it be for work-at-home or personal use.

For information on selecting a computer and placing an order, visit our computer purchase page.

File Storage

We provide Carleton students, faculty and staff a variety of ways to store data on the network.

ITS provides enterprise backup services for the campus.  Backups are done for disaster recovery only and are not part of an archiving service.

At ITS, we provide environmentally friendly and secure disposal of computers, peripherals, televisions and other audio visual electronic equipment for the Carleton community.
