Tom Jenkins will be presented with the degree Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, at the 2:00 p.m. ceremony on Thursday, June 9 “in recognition of his stellar contributions to education, enterprise and innovation in both the public and private sectors in Canada.”
He is chair of the board of OpenText™ Corp. of Waterloo, the largest software company in Canada, as well as chair of the National Research Council and the 10th chancellor of the University of Waterloo.
Mr. Jenkins pioneered many technologies commonly used today to manage digital information. He is the author or co-author of 10 widely read books on Internet publishing.
He is a member of the board of Manulife Financial Corp., Thomson Reuters Inc. and TransAlta Corp. He is also a director of the Business Council of Canada, the School of Public Policy at the University of Calgary and a member of the advisory council of the Royal Canadian Air Force. He is an Officer of the Order of Canada.
