SLaLS is pleased to announce the official launch of several new undergraduate programs in Linguistics. In addition to the Bachelors of Arts in Linguistics, Carleton now offers two new degrees:

  • Bachelors of Science in Linguistics (with a Psychology focus)
  • Bachelors of Science in Linguistics (with a Neuroscience focus)

To supplement these degrees, Carleton now offers two degree concentrations:

  • Linguistic Theory
  • Psycholinguistics and Communication Disorders

All said, this means Linguistics students will now have seven honours degrees to choose from!

  • Bachelors of Arts in Linguistics
  • Bachelors of Arts in Linguistics with a concentration in Linguistic Theory
  • Bachelors of Arts in Linguistics with a concentration in Psycholinguistics and Communication Disorders
  • Bachelors of Science in Linguistics (with a Psychology focus) with a concentration in Linguistic Theory
  • Bachelors of Science in Linguistics (with a Neuroscience focus) with a concentration in Linguistic Theory
  • Bachelors of Science in Linguistics (with a Psychology focus) with a concentration in Psycholinguistics and Communication Disorders
  • Bachelors of Science in Linguistics (with a Neuroscience focus) with a concentration in Psycholinguistics and Communication Disorders

All of these programs will be available for enrollment in September. All current students will at that time have the opportunity to enroll in any of those programs or stay in their existing program (Linguistics students will by default stay in their existing program). Students should be advised that switching from a Bachelors of Arts to a Bachelors of Science involves an internal application process that requires meeting the prerequisites for the Bachelors of Science degree, but switching within the Bachelors of Arts degrees can be done easily online.

More information, including official calendar entries and websites describing the various programs will be forthcoming in the following months. In the meantime, if you are interested in switching into any of these programs, feel free to contact linguistics faculty for advising on what the new programs entail and which might be the best fit for your interests. We suggest contacting Kumiko Murasugi (Undergraduate Advisor of SLaLS), Beth MacLeod (Assistant Director of Linguistics), Lev Blumenfeld, or Dan Siddiqi (Curriculum Committee members) for more details and advising.
