Don’t miss your chance to attend an Accessible Learning workshop this fall. Presented by the Educational Development Centre in partnership with the Paul Menton Centre, the workshop will help you gain the knowledge and skills to effectively support students with disabilities and other diverse learners in your courses. Your participation will allow Carleton to meet its legal obligation for educator training under the AODA legislation.

The workshop features contributions from President Roseann O’Reilly Runte, faculty members, instructors, students and staff through a series of videos on barriers to learning, accessibility and accommodations. Some of the topics covered include:

  • Understanding various barriers to learning
  • Examining personal pedagogical conceptions
  • Incorporating instructional models to promote accessibility
  • Planning for accommodations
  • Hearing from students and faculty about their experiences

The workshop is facilitated by Boris Vukovic, disabilities coordinator at the PMC, a Carleton graduate and a Ph.D. candidate in the Learning Sciences at McGill University. He has presented for a number of years on accessibility in learning environments and brings undergraduate and graduate teaching experience as well as an in-depth knowledge of relevant theory and research.

There are three workshop dates left for the fall semester:

  • October 22, 1 – 3:30 p.m.
  • November 6, 9:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.
  • November 26, 9:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.
