There are a number of opportunities for TAs and grad students to develop their skills at the EDC this fall. From the TA Mentor Program to the Certificate in Teaching Assistant Skills to the Preparing to Teach Certificate, we’ve got something for you!

TA Training Schedule

The EDC’s full schedule for TA Training is now available online and it features a host of options, including 25 live workshops and teaching talks, all of which are now available for registration on Carleton Central; 1 fully online and 2 blended online workshops; the TA Article; and more. If you’re TA’ing in a course with a large online component, take special note of all the new training options with a focus on teaching online.

TA Training Day Event

The full programme for the Fall TA Training Day event, which is taking place on Saturday, Sept. 20 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., will be available online after Sept. 15. Featured sessions include 12 1.25-hour workshops and two 1-hour keynote addresses from award-winning teachers Drs. Kim Hellemans and Vincent Kazmierski. Registration for sessions will open on Carleton Central by Sept. 15.

TA Mentor Program

The Mentor Program is up and running, with TA Mentors in nine academic departments plus one International TA Mentor. Mentors help to offer TA Training sessions in the Fall and Winter semester, so get to know yours! See the list of Mentor-supported departments here.

International Graduate Students (IGS) Learning Community

Starting in October, the ITA Mentor will host a bi-weekly Learning Community that aims to foster a mutually supportive space where, through frequent low-stakes practice and feedback, international graduate students can build confidence with professional writing and communicating while collaborating with international graduate students across disciplines. Preparing to Teach Certificate Program
