Former I-CUREUS recipient and fourth-year history student Tyler Owens was recently appointed as one of the Library and Archives Canada’s Youth Advisory Council’s twenty members. The council will be called on “to share their opinions on a variety of issues affecting LAC and Canada’s documentary heritage.” According to LAC, Owens and his fellow council members “will provide feedback on specific LAC initiatives and help identify opportunities to improve LAC’s service delivery and presence. They will also brainstorm and test new ideas on a variety of topics.” For Owens, the appointment offers an unparalleled opportunity “to get valuable experience in history as a career field and to gain insight into how LAC functions as an organization.” He also sees this as a way to make a concrete contribution to the teaching and learning of history in Canada.
