Carleton’s Golden Key Society chapter executive
Carleton University has been recognized by the Golden Key International Honour Society with a 2019 Key Chapter Award.
Golden Key is an international collegiate honour society that recognizes scholastic achievement across all academic disciplines. The top 15 per cent of each program in undergraduate studies (based on cumulative GPA) are invited to become members.
The Key Chapter Award is the highest level that a chapter can achieve, recognizing those that have shown outstanding achievement and contributions in the areas of Golden Key’s three pillars: academics, leadership and service.
This past year, the Carleton Golden Key chapter provided 139 hours of service supporting organizations including The Ottawa Mission and Cornerstone Housing for Women. Members also volunteered at Carleton Heights Public School during the winter semester helping students with sports, math and French. The chapter also hosted a variety of events to support academics, including workshops, study sessions and exam stress busters.
“We are very proud of this achievement,” said David Hornsby, Carleton’s Associate Vice-President (Teaching and Learning) and Golden Key Advisor. “Providing opportunities to network, engage with the community and cultivate leadership skills are critical to the student experience at Carleton. The Golden Key Society encourages these valuable opportunities for our students to grow and become engaged citizens.”
Carleton was one of 27 award winners among over 400 Golden Key chapters worldwide. The winners were announced at the Golden Key Leadership Summit in Houston, Texas held on July 26-28.
