Work is well underway preparing Carleton’s new learning management system, Brightspace, for the Carleton community in May 2021. D2L has provisioned our new space, and ITS and TLS are working to configure and integrate various systems and tools into the platform.
The integrations that are completed so far include single sign on (SSO) and linking course data information from Banner. While refinements still need to be made to these integrations, progress has been quick. Behind the scenes work is continuing on Office 365, Kaltura, cuPortfolio and a number of other integrations.
We continue to test the course migration process to help ensure that courses and content will move as smoothly as possible from cuLearn to Brightspace. We’ve noted that several features in Moodle do not migrate particularly elegantly (the lesson tool for example), while other areas come over smoothly. The
team is also working to learn the new tools in Brightspace that support student engagement and streamlined instructor workflows.
Preparations are well underway for a limited winter term pilot to establish a Brightspace Ambassador Program, an initiative designed to build expertise and support across faculties and disciplines at Carleton.
