The course grade book keeps track of student progress, but it also communicates information to students about course work, expectations, and your teaching approach. This workshop addresses the pedagogical role the grade book plays in overall course design. Together we will deconstruct the grading process by looking at what a grade is, examining why we grade, and discussing what different approaches to grading tell your learners. We will examine four grade book systems: weighted, points, success/revise, and formula. Through examples and discussions, participants will be encouraged to think through the choices they make in setting up their grade book.

By the end of this session, participants will be better prepared to choose a grading process and grade book setup that best aligns with their teaching philosophy, values, and learning goals.
