Experiential Learning 101
December 4, 2024 at 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM
Location: | 481 MacOdrum Library |

You’ve likely heard the term ‘experiential learning’ a thousand times – but what does it mean? What does it look like? How can you make it happen in your courses, and why would you want to?
In this session, we’ll start by demystifying experiential learning, including how it’s defined at Carleton and where our definition came from. We’ll explore examples from real Carleton courses as well as good practices, key resources (including funding), and educational technology tools to help you envision experiential learning activities for your course.
By the end of the session, we hope you’ll feel more confident:
- Identifying the meaning and value of experiential learning in the university context
- Describing core strategies and practices associated with experiential education
- Identifying practical supports you can use to design and implement experiential learning activities in your courses
