The Ottawa-Carleton 3rd Symposium on Science Education

April 30, 2024 at 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM

Location:MacOdrum Library, Future Learning Lab (fourth floor)
Cost:Free

There are many professors, instructional staff, graduate and undergraduate students in the Faculties of Science and Education whose interests and research focus are on the scholarship of teaching and learning of science. However, due to physical separation between Faculties and our two universities, there are rarely any opportunities for these like-minded individuals to share their interest in science education within or between our many colleagues. Therefore, the present symposium is being organized once again this year, after a few years’ moratorium post-COVID, to continue to promote the exchange of ideas, research and best teaching practices, as well as to create opportunities for collaboration amongst its participants on various aspects of teaching and research.

The cross-Faculty symposium is a venue allowing for communication and collaboration between scholars from Carleton University and the University of Ottawa who are interested in engaging in theoretical and practical approaches to science education. The reasons for such meaningful exchange between participants are threefold, to:

  • lead to greater knowledge mobility across our related fields – i.e. science and education;
  • improve the learning experiences of our undergraduate and graduate students;
  • foster joint teaching and research projects between members of our faculties.

In the spirit of sharing the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL) of our colleagues, we are proud to organize our third Ottawa/Carleton Science Education Symposium. Our theme is the link between pedagogical theory and practice, and we envision this day as a forum for dialogue and discovery of new ideas. In this context, we invite the participation from any interested colleagues currently active in SoTL (or not) seeking to engage with this field!
