Using ePortfolios to Support Experiential Learning

August 10, 2022 at 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM

Cost:Free

Eportfolios are an excellent tool to enrich and capture students’ learning over time, especially in experiential learning courses/programs where critical reflection is an essential part of the learning process (Kolb & Kolb, 2017). Specifically, ePortfolios allow students to organize a wide variety of virtual artifacts collected throughout their learning experiences (e.g., photos, videos, documents) and create a reflective narrative of their learning around those artifacts. Eportfolios can be used in a single course, across several courses, and even across a whole program over multiple years of study, and they can focus on specific or general knowledge, skills, values, etc. Students can continue to access and add to their portfolios even after graduation, e.g., for use in job applications. This workshop will begin with a brief overview of e-Portfolios. We will discuss potential applications of ePortfolios and provide sample ePortfolio assignments. We will guide you to consider opportunities for ePortfolio integration in your course/program, with an emphasis on designing meaningful, portfolio-based reflection and experiential learning activities and assessments.By the end of this session, you’ll be ready to:

  • Describe different types and applications of ePortfolios.
  • Identify and navigate the key features of cuPortfolio.
  • Explain how intentional activity design (reflections, experiential learning) contributes to the successful use of ePortfolios in a course/program.
  • Develop a preliminary idea of a potential application of ePortfolios in your course/program.

NOTE: This session will be hosted in Zoom and recorded to provide asynchronous access for those who cannot attend the scheduled date.
