Internal Donor-Funded Bursary Awards for Undergraduate Students in Social Work 2025-26
Please see the information below with descriptions and eligibility criteria for the awards. Please note that students can apply for multiple awards if they meet eligibility criteria. However, funds may be fairly allocated among all eligible applicants. Large-value awards are typically divided among several recipients.
Please note that students are required to include a rationale for their application and submit accurate, detailed estimates of their academic and living expenses and resources/revenue from September 1, 2025, to April 31, 2026. - Catherine Jane Lees Memorial Award
Awarded annually to an outstanding undergraduate student who identifies as a woman and is proceeding from first to second year in a Bachelor of Social Work program. Eligible students will demonstrate academic enthusiasm, and consideration will given to students in financial need. Application is required. Recipients may not receive this award more than once. Established in 2023 by the estate of Catherine Jane Lees MSW/97.
Amount available: $2,000
Eligibility: Students who proceeded from the first year in 2024-25 into the second year in 2025-26 of the Bachelor of Social Work program.
- Social Work Award for Indigenous, Black and Racialized Students
Awarded annually to an undergraduate student who is Indigenous, Black, or a member of a Racialized group and is enrolled in the first year of the Bachelor of Social Work program. Recipients must demonstrate financial need, must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada (landed immigrants or protected persons) and must demonstrate a dedication to promoting social justice and social change within Indigenous or Racialized communities. Application is required. Endowed in 2021 by Jennifer Murakami BSW/97, MSW/04, and other Social Work alumni.
Amount available: $2,500
Eligibility: Indigenous, Black or a member of a Racialized group and is enrolled in the first year of the Bachelor of Social Work program for the 2025-26 academic year.
- Brian MacIntosh Bursary in Social Work
Awarded annually to one or more senior undergraduate or graduate students in the School of Social Work who require financial assistance in order to continue to complete their studies at Carleton University. Recipients must be Canadian Citizens or permanent residents of Canada (landed immigrant or a protected person) and must also meet OSAP’s Ontario residency requirement. Recipients must also demonstrate financial need. Endowed in 2006 by family, friends and colleagues, in memory of Brian MacIntosh. Brian was a child protection worker at the Children’s Aid Society of the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry in Cornwall. He graduated from the Carleton University School of Social Work in 2003. He died in a boat accident in September 2003.
Amount available: $4,000
Eligibility: Senior undergraduate student in the School of Social Work who requires financial assistance in order to continue to complete their studies at Carleton University.
- Doug & Ollie Bullock Award
Awarded annually to an undergraduate or graduate student enrolled in the School of Social Work. Preference will be given to those studying in the Centre for Studies in Poverty and Social Citizenship. Recipients must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada (landed immigrant or a protected person), meet OSAP’s Ontario residency requirements and demonstrate financial need. Endowed in 2012 by Douglas Bullock, MSW/83.
Amount available: $30,000
Eligibility: Undergraduate or graduate student enrolled in the School of Social Work. Preference will be given to those studying in the Centre for Studies in Poverty and Social Citizenship.
Successful applicants will be notified by the Awards and Financial Aid Office.
