Applying for a Carleton University Accessible Parking Permit
- A CU Accessible Parking Permit will be made available for purchase to any staff/student applicant who presents a Provincial Accessible Parking Permit (APP) issued in the applicant’s name. This will be the main avenue to obtain a CU Accessible Parking Permit from Parking Services.
- In the province of Ontario, APPs are governed and issued by ServiceOntario. For further information, please visit the ServiceOntario website at http://www.ontario.ca/driving-and-roads/accessible-parking-permits-and-motorcycle-decals.
- Upon referral from Human Resources, or the Paul Menton Centre (PMC), Parking Services will grant a grace period of one academic term – up to four (4) months to allow the staff/student applicant time to complete the necessary documentation with their physician to apply for/obtain an MTO APP. During this time period, staff/student applicants will be issued with a temporary Accessible Parking Permit that will expire at the end of the four (4) month period. Extensions beyond this period will not be granted.
- In cases where there is an obvious physical limitation/restriction, (i.e.: broken leg, late pregnancy, etc.), and the staff/student applicant attends Parking Services, a CU Acessible Parking Permit may be issued for up to three (3) months without presentation of an APP. Extensions beyond this period will not be granted without medical documentation or an APP.
- In cases where staff/students do not qualify for an APP permit, but do have functional limitations (i.e.: phobias, psychological disorders/impairments, etc.) and may require special parking arrangements, Human Resources or PMC may forward a request to Parking Services for CU Accessible Parking Permit accommodation. Staff/students must provide supporting medical documentation to demonstrate the requirement for any such request. If you have a concern about the accommodation provided, you can contact Equity and Inclusive Communities.
