P9 Demolition
This webpage has been created to provide information about the demolition of the P9 parking garage, which is scheduled to begin on May 1, 2024. This will impact faculty and staff who have parking permits for P9.
As part of the process to provide information about this project, there was an information session held on Nov. 28, 2023. To view the presentation please go here.

As there are no other parking lots close to the P9 parking garage, additional accessible parking will be made available on University Drive, in front of the Maintenance Building.
-
The university has not yet approved future plans for the P9 garage site. Once the demolition is completed, basic landscape will be put in place.

Parking Services will be in contact with all P9 permit holders in spring 2024 to ask for your choice of new parking lot. All P9 permit holders will have a choice of either P18 (covered parking) or P7 (surface lot parking) – both located at the north end of campus. You may put your name on one alternative waitlist prior to May 2024. On May 1, 2024, your permit will be transferred to the P18 Parking Garage, or P7 depending on your choice. There will be regular communications with P9 permit holders.

The P9 Parking garage was built in 1969. It will be 55 years old in 2024. The garage has been continually assessed and monitored by WSP (Williams Sale Partnership) Engineers since 2012. Engineering reports in 2020 called for its decommissioning in May 2024. This is supported by the continued maintenance requirements since then. The Board of Governors approved the demolition plan at its April 2023 meeting.

Yes, a few days in advance of the demolition, the lot will be permanently closed and blocked off. All P9 permit holders will be notified about the dates once they are confirmed. Demolition will occur as some point after May 1, 2024. Fencing may be erected shortly before the demolition begins so the construction site can be prepared in advance.
In spring 2024, Parking Services will be contacting all P9 permit holders to ask about which parking lot they wished to be moved to. The two choices are: P7 or the P18 parking garage located in the north end of the campus. Parking Services will ensure that the new price of your new permit is transitioned to your account. On May 1, 2024, your permit will be transferred to your new parking lot.
