FeedbackFruits (FbF) is a scalable, all-in-one teaching & learning activity suite. From within D2L Brightspace, instructors can employ a selection of Feedback Fruits’ learning activity tools that can help them manage students’ assignments & submissions, set up feedback activities, design self-assessments for students, create social reading activities, and more. These tools are designed to boost student engagement, support collaboration, improve feedback quality, and manage real-time visibility of student progress.
Selecting a FeedbackFruits Activity
At Carleton University, instructors have access to nine different Feedback Fruits activities.
The types of activities can be broadly classified into Assessment & Feedback, Social Learning and Discussion, and Forming Student Groups.
It may seem daunting to select which Feedback Fruits Activity will best suit your course’s needs. This graphic flowchart will help instructors select the activity that best fits their lesson. You can find more information about each of these tools in the FeedbackFruits Suite section.

Each of the activities are listed below, along with links to support documentation & videos that explain how each activity is set up.
- Peer Review
-
This tool is designed to simplify the process of peer review and exchange of student work. Students submit their work and then provide feedback on the submissions of their peers.
- Group Member Evaluation
-
Following a group assignment or activity, students can evaluate the contributions made by their peers. This tool is designed to provide instructors with transparent insights into their students’ collaborative process & performance, and make group work grading fairer.
- Self-Assessment of Work
-
Based on the instructor’s criteria, students self-assess their skills and evaluate their submitted work. With this tool, instructors can motivate students to take ownership of their learning and the outcomes of their work.
- Interactive Document
-
This tool allows instructors to add question cards or discussion prompts to course documents. This allows students to take part in social reading activities and increase their engagement and comprehension of texts.
- Interactive Video
-
Uploaded or embedded videos can be annotated with additional information like question cards or discussion prompts. Students then interact with these annotations—and with each other’ comments— increasing their engagement with the content of the video.
- Interactive Presentation
-
Instructors conduct a live presentation using slides, with the option to insert question slides and track student responses in real-time. This tool is designed to make presentations more engaging by encouraging attentiveness & active thinking.
- Discussion on Work
-
Students submit their individual or group assignments, and receive feedback from their instructor & peers, guided by prompts set by the instructor. This activity creates room for structured discussion, and provides the instructor with detailed analytics on student participation & progress.
- Discussion on Topic
-
Instructors provide discussion prompts for students to respond to and expand upon, stimulating active learning & collaboration.
- Group Formation
-
Instructors provide either a survey or open-ended question that will algorithmically sort students into work groups. These groups are pushed to the Brightspace groups tool and can be used in other activities.
